A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR:

"As a career-long learning professional I often remind myself, and impart to my students, that education is a continual journey. I want them to understand that the world has much to teach them if they are open to learning, engaged with their community, and seeking experiences to broaden their cultural understanding. With this mindset, I create classes and productions oriented toward critical self-, local, and global consciousness. Reflecting on the divide between what happens beyond our school—in our city, our country, and around the world—and our students’ limited knowledge of many important events, I added a current events play writing component to my curriculum where theatre arts students create one-act plays expressing viewpoints from multiple perspectives around a single issue or conflict.

Opportunities such as our partnerships with Bloomington Playwrights Project, The Cardinal Stage Company, Indiana University, and the Bloomington Chamber Singers are prevalent in my community and I am fortunate to be part of this larger family that values expression of the human spirit and shares an enthusiasm for passing on vital historic and artistic ideas and events to future generations. My hope is that students will see theatre as a way to affect change in their lives and the lives of others. "

Each year this extra-curricular theatre troupe produces several mainstage or black box-style events, including some student directed productions and a fully-staged musical in the spring of each school year.
We will also be competing in the Regional Thespian Conference in December and hope to earn a performance opportunity at State in January.

Past productions have included:  12 Angry Jurors, Almost, Maine, Rabbit Hole, Proof, Footloose, The Outsiders, The Nerd, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Grease, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Good Doctor, Alice in Wonderland, Grimm Tales, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Odd Couple, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Glass Menagerie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Diviners, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, Bye Bye Birdie, and Guys and Dolls.

"Act well your part; there all the honor lies."
—Alexander Pope's Essay on Man
